Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye Enhance Strategic Ties, Prioritize Trade and Connectivity

Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan have pledged to bolster their bilateral relationship by enhancing cooperation in multiple areas such as trade, investment, and regional connectivity. This commitment emerged after the seventh Türkiye-Kyrgyzstan Joint Strategic Planning Group meeting held in Ankara, which was co-led by the foreign ministers of the two nations. The discussions emphasized the importance of diplomatic approaches to resolving international conflicts.

During the meeting, officials assessed the progress in bilateral relations and expressed their intent to further expand cooperation in crucial sectors like education, cultural exchanges, and economic development. Preparations for future reciprocal visits by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan were also on the agenda. Economic collaboration was identified as a key focus, with both governments promising to back new investment projects and take measures to enhance business conditions. They also agreed to foster opportunities in travel, employment, and education to strengthen ties between their populations.

Regional connectivity emerged as a significant topic, with Kyrgyzstan emphasizing the Middle Corridor’s strategic importance as a transport route. The country aims to connect the proposed China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway to this corridor, enhancing access to European and Middle Eastern markets via Türkiye. This connectivity is seen as vital for boosting economic prospects and facilitating smoother trade flows.

The talks also addressed regional and global security challenges, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to resolving issues peacefully through dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law. Kyrgyzstan acknowledged Türkiye’s contributions to regional mediation efforts and expressed gratitude for Ankara’s support in securing a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.

Kyrgyzstan intends to use its upcoming role on the Security Council to promote international dialogue and advocate for the interests of landlocked developing countries, mountainous nations, and small island states. This strategic focus highlights the nation’s commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by these groups on the global stage.
