China Calls on Israel to Stop West Bank Settlements and Address Gaza Crisis

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on Israel to halt the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and to improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza. These remarks were made during a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at a conference in Azerbaijan, according to China’s Foreign Ministry.

Wang emphasized that the Palestinian issue remains a significant historical injustice and advocated for a political solution to the ongoing conflict. He expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with the international community to renew dialogue between the parties involved, pushing towards a peaceful resolution.

Additionally, Wang highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, urging for increased humanitarian access. He reaffirmed China’s support for a two-state solution, which includes the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. China has also been active in promoting Palestinian reconciliation and diplomatic efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East.

In response, President Herzog discussed bilateral relations and broader regional concerns, particularly focusing on Israel’s desire for peace while addressing security issues involving Iran and its regional allies.

The situation in Gaza remains unstable despite a ceasefire initiated in October 2025. Ongoing challenges include Israeli strikes, displacement, and stalled progress towards the next phase of the ceasefire agreement. Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violating the ceasefire, complicating efforts to stabilize the region.

This dialogue between China and Israel reflects ongoing international efforts to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza, and revive diplomatic negotiations.
