Trump Reveals Iran Peace Proposal to Israel, Allies Amid Ceasefire Stability

Amid heightened diplomatic efforts to maintain a tenuous ceasefire and pursue a broader settlement, US President Donald Trump has distributed a draft peace plan for the Iran conflict to key allies, including Israel. The proposal aims to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted commercial shipping, lift the US blockade on Iranian ports, and allow Iran access to billions in frozen assets. A 60-day negotiation period dedicated to discussing Iran’s nuclear program is central to the plan.

According to the draft, maritime traffic through the crucial Strait of Hormuz would resume to normal levels within 30 days. The negotiations are set to cover Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, future enrichment activities, and enhanced monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Iran would also pledge not to pursue nuclear weapons. US Vice President JD Vance has indicated that while both sides are nearing an agreement, challenges remain, particularly on uranium enrichment and the management of existing nuclear materials.

Diplomatic mediation continues, with Pakistan playing a significant role in facilitating indirect talks between Washington and Tehran. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to engage with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington to further discussions. Despite these efforts, tensions in the Gulf region remain high, underscored by recent military incidents between US and Iranian forces, highlighting the ceasefire’s fragility and the risk of renewed escalation.

The proposed agreement has sparked debate among regional stakeholders. Israel has expressed concerns that the framework delays crucial decisions regarding Iran’s nuclear program, while ongoing discussions focus on sanctions relief and maritime security. The management of the Strait of Hormuz is a pivotal issue, with Iranian officials reaffirming their role in overseeing shipping through the waterway, while the US insists on unrestricted navigation and opposes any future toll system for commercial vessels.

Oil markets are closely watching developments, given the Strait’s significance for global energy supplies. Analysts note that the coming weeks are critical in determining if the ceasefire can evolve into a comprehensive diplomatic agreement, potentially easing regional tensions and stabilizing international energy markets.
